EMORY, VA – The William Peace University women's soccer team was back in action Wednesday night, traveling to play the Wasps of Emory & Henry, where the Pacers fell, 2-0.
After both teams battled for possession throughout the majority of the opening half, Emory & Henry broke through in the 42
nd minute. Christina Ameen's cross into the box found Sarah Safrit for the one-timer from point-blank range, and just like that, the Pacers (1-3-1) were down a goal at the break.
WPU had their opportunities to score in the second half, but they weren't able to find the back of the net. Meanwhile, the Wasps (1-4-1) added another goal in the 66th
minute after winning a free kick. Clarissa Martin served a ball into the box, which was headed off the far post by junior midfielder Sam Sampson. Kelsey Little collected the rebound and put it home.
The WPU women's soccer team hits the road again this weekend for their USA South conference opener. The Pacers square off against LaGrange on Saturday before turning around the next day to play Huntingdon. Both matches kick-off at noon.
