ROCKY MOUNT, NC – The William Peace Softball Team pushed four runs across in the fifth and another in the sixth to get past Piedmont in the opening round of USA South Conference Tournament Play, 5-1.

Heather Dindinger (5-5) went the distance to earn the win for the Pacers, allowing only one run on five hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

Morgan Bryant led WPU at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, including her second home run of the season in the sixth, a solo shot to lead off the inning. Lindsey Wiggins went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Shay Poteat added a hit and a run batted in, while Casey Taylor chipped in with a hit and a run scored.

The Pacers (19-13-1) got some help in the fifth, as Piedmont committed three errors in the inning. Casey Taylor started the inning with a single to left and advanced to third, as her sister, Ragan Taylor reached base on an error committed by pitcher. Wiggins reached on a fielder's choice, and Casey Taylor scored on the play after the second baseman threw it away. Ragan Taylor and Wiggins both scored on the next play, thanks to another throwing error from the second baseman, which allowed Caroline Womble to reach base. Womble came around to score on Poteat's RBI single.

For Piedmont (16-13), Sarah Walker (12-9) was pinned with the loss, giving up five runs (two earned) on five hits and a strikeout in six innings of work. Five Piedmont players registered one hit apiece.

WPU returns to action this afternoon against Greensboro. First pitch is at 3:00 p.m.
