McLamb No Hits Penn College in Collegiate Debut; WPU Takes Two in Myrtle

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The William Peace Softball Team won a pair of non-conference games Friday afternoon, playing in Myrtle Beach, SC.  Katelyn McLamb made her collegiate pitching debut and no-hit Penn College, as the Pacers won their first game, 13-0, before beating Mount Aloysius, 9-5.

Game One: William Peace 13, Penn College 0

McLamb (1-0) struck out three during her no-hit bid and every Pacer in the starting lineup registered at least one hit in the game. WPU racked up 15 hits in all, scored five runs in the first, eight in the second, and the game was called after three innings due to the tournament's mercy rule.

Stamey went 2-for-3, drove in four with a pair of two-RBI doubles and scored two runs. Morgan Bryant also went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Shay Poteat went a perfect 3-for-3 to go along with two RBI and two runs scored. Caroline Womble went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Ragan Taylor and Michelle Sheldon-Gregorio each added a hit, an RBI and a run scored. Lindsey Wiggins chipped in with a hit and a pair of runs scored.

Game Two: William Peace 9, Mount Aloysius 5

After a scoreless first, Stamey walked to reach base with one away in the second and scored on a double from Michaela Fox. Wiggins gave WPU (5-6-1) a 2-0 lead in the third, plating Gregorio with an RBI double of her own after Gregorio singled to lead off the inning.

Mount Aloysius scored three in the top of the fourth to go ahead by a run, but Stamey led the bottom half of the inning off with a base hit and came home to tie the game, 3-3, on Bryant's RBI double. In the fifth, Stamey doubled home Morgan Farmer for a 4-3 Pacers lead. WPU tacked on five more in the sixth and went on to win, 9-5.

The Pacers outhit Mount Aloysius, 14-6, as Wiggins, Poteat, Stamey, Fox, Bryant and Casey Taylor each registered two hits apiece.

Lauren Martin got the start but didn't factor into the decision. She allowed three runs (two earned) on two hits in four innings of work, until she was pulled in favor of fellow senior Heather Dindinger. Dindinger (1-3) finished things off for the win, giving up two runs on four hits and a pair of strikeouts in three innings pitched.

The WPU Softball Team returns to action for a conference doubleheader against Piedmont starting at 2:00 p.m.
