2nd Half Lapse Costs Women's Soccer vs Scots

CARY, NC – The William Peace University women's soccer entered halftime with a scoreless tie against the Scots of Covenant College, but the Pacers allowed three goals in a five minute span after the break on their way to a 3-0 loss.

WPU (6-10-2, 4-7 USAS) withstood the Scots' attack through the opening half and into the second, until Anna Porch put Covenant ahead in the 57th minute, heading Allie Vannoy's corner kick into the back of the net.

The Scots (10-4, 8-3 USAS) struck two minutes later, as Rachel Bernard collected a loose ball in the box and put it away. Porch added her second goal of the game in the 62nd minute, another header off a corner kick taken by Hannah King.

"I thought we'd give ourselves a chance to scratch it out, but we let our guard down for a moment and it cost us," said head coach Keith Jenkins. "We no longer control our own destiny, but we'll focus on what we can control, which is closing out the season with a win on Wednesday."

As it stands right now, WPU sits ninth in the USA South standings. The top eight teams clinch a berth to the upcoming conference tournament. The Pacers close out the regular season at home, hosting Averett University this Wednesday, October 28 at 5:00 p.m.
