Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

WPU Women's Basketball Falls at No. 23 Maryville

MARYVILLE, TN – The William Peace women's basketball team only trailed no. 23 Maryville, 35-32, five minutes into the second half, but an ensuing 11-0 Scots run was too much for the Pacers to overcome as they fell, 64-47.

The Pacers fall to 4-6 overall with a 1-3 record in the USA South. Maryville improves to 12-1 with a perfect 4-0 record in conference play. The Scots are also winners of 11 straight.

"If they aren't the best team, they're one of the best teams in the league, and I thought we handled ourselves pretty well on the road," said head coach Kelly Johnson. "I thought we played well for the most part. Everyone stepped up, and Ka'la Jordan in particular had a very good game for us."

Jordan led the Pacers with 17 points, seven rebounds, a pair of assists, and a blocked shot. DeJah Cheathem also reached double-figures with 11 points and two rebounds.

After a quiet opening half, last year's USA South Player of the Year, Mackenzie Puckett, ended up being the Scot's key to victory. Puckett scored 19 second half points on 7-of-10 (7-of-10) shooting from the field and finished with a game high 23.

"She was the difference in the game in my opinion," Johnson said. "She's an excellent player, and whenever they really needed a basket they went to her."

"We just have to forget about this, get some rest, and get ready for Covenant tomorrow," Johnson added.

The Pacers will tip-off against the Scots tomorrow at 6:00 p.m.  Video coverage and live stats will be available for the contest.
