DEMOREST, GA. – The William Peace volleyball team played their final two matches of the regular season this afternoon as the Pacers took N.C. Wesleyan down, 3-2, but then lost to Piedmont in three.
WPU (13-21, 10-9 USAS) played their second five set match of the year against NC Wesleyan and took the first set, 25-17. The Battling Bishops (7-21, 6-13 USAS) bounced back to even things up in the second though by the score, 25-20.
The Pacers took the third set, 25-20, but were unable to close things out as NC Wesleyan extended the match with a 25-22 win in the fourth. WPU built took a four point, 11-7, lead in the fifth but a 4-1 Bishops run made it a one point game. The two teams traded points the rest of the way until Peace finished Wesleyan off, 15-13, on a kill from Tempestt Frazier.
Four different Pacers put up double-digit kills led by 15 from Megan Mansfield who also contributed 7 digs, 3 service aces, 5 block assists, and a block solo. Frazier had 11 kills at a .417 clip. Laura Bland had 10 kills and 7 digs, while Nicole Phillips also had 10 kills with 5 digs. Baylee Maughon had a solid outing with 45 assists and 16 digs. Carson Williams led the defense with 18 digs and Maddie Irvin also chipped in with 10 digs.
William Peace didn't put up much of a fight against Piedmont (20-12, 11-5 USAS) falling in straight sets: 25-14, 25-20, and 25-16.
The Pacers will return to action traveling to Martinsville, Virginia for the USA South conference tournament beginning Friday, Nov. 7. They'll face Meredith at 5:00 p.m. in the opening round.
