Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

William Peace Women's Soccer Blanked by Methodist, 3-0

By Kimothy Jones

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The William Peace women's soccer team tried their hand against Methodist University this afternoon. Despite their defensive efforts, highlighted by 11 saves from goalie Shannon Maddex, their offensive woes continued to rear its head. The Pacers only managed one shot the entire game compared to 24 for the Monarchs as they fell, 3-0.

"Unfortunately, Methodist was a very good team and they kept pressure on us the entire day," said head coach Keith Jenkins. "We still do not have enough offensive firepower to stay with schools like that."

Leslie Coates started the scoring for the Monarchs (4-5-1, 3-0-1 USAS) with a goal in the 19th minute assisted by Cassie Walter. Cassie Pointdexter was the next to score, this time with an unassisted goal right before the half in the 44th minute.  The Pacers would concede their final goal shortly after halftime in the 46th minute to Jasmine Newman, assisted by Taylor Cavazos for Methodist.

Though the loss was disappointing, Jenkins still thinks his team has made strides.

"Two years ago, this team beat us 12-1 at Methodist, so to only lose 3-0 is a tremendous improvement," said Jenkins. "We continue to get better as a program, and that's what we focus on every day."

WPU (3-8-1, 1-5-0 USAS) will travel to Chowan for their next game on Friday Oct. 10th. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
