William Peace Women's Soccer Suffers 4-1 Setback vs. Ferrum

CARY, N.C. – After another poor outing in the first half, the William Peace women's soccer team played much better in the second against the Panthers of Ferrum College.  It wasn't nearly enough though as Ferrum downed the Pacers, 4-1.

"Give a lot of credit to Ferrum. They had three or four very dynamic players that hurt us," said head coach Keith Jenkins.  "Not being at full strength definitely hurt us too, but I thought we played better in the second half.  We took the attack to them a little bit more, and we scored a goal so we'll take that for what it's worth."

Dava McLamb scored for William Peace (3-7-1, 1-4 USAS) in the 82nd with the assist coming from Amelia Melching, but it was too little too late.

Morgan Funck, the conference's reining player of the week, and Megan Webb both scored two goals apiece for Ferrum (6-4, 3-2 USAS), one coming in each half.

Funck struck first in the 19th minute on a long through ball over top from Meghin Martin who was credited with the assist. Webb scored in the 37th with an assist from Andrea Scruggs to take a 2-0 lead into the break.

Funck scored here second goal in the 48th, assisted once again by Martin, and Webb made it 4-0 in the 55th with help from Chloe Hudson.

WPU's struggle to generate offense continues, and the Pacers were outshot, 21-6. Shannon Maddex did all she could, making 11 saves out of the 15 that were on target.

The Pacers women's soccer team will return to action this Saturday, Oct. 4 at 4:00 p.m. as they travel to take on the Monarchs of Methodist University.
