Sophia Swenson began her duties as head coach of the William Peace men's and women's swimming programs on July 16, 2026.
A four-year standout for the Pacers, Swenson returns to her alma mater after building her coaching experience throughout the Triangle. Most recently, she served as Head Coach of the Raleigh Marlins following a season leading Cary High School. She also spent three years as an assistant coach with YOTA Swim Team and coached with the Abbington Alligators, where her competitive swimming career first began.
One of the most accomplished swimmers in William Peace history, Swenson was named the Independent South Swimming Conference Female Athlete of the Year in 2022 and earned conference Female Athlete of the Year Runner-Up honors in 2024. She also received William Peace University's Female Performance of the Year award in 2022 and was named the university's Female Newcomer of the Year in 2021.
Swenson leaves her mark throughout the Pacer record book, holding school records in the 50 freestyle (24.65), 100 freestyle (54.10), 200 freestyle (2:00.84), and 500 freestyle (5:20.31). She was also a member of the program-record 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay, and 400 medley relay teams.
Throughout her collegiate career, Swenson helped establish the foundation of the William Peace swimming program through her leadership, competitive success, and commitment to excellence. She now returns to Peace with a passion for developing student-athletes both in and out of the pool while continuing to build the program's success.
Swenson graduated from William Peace University in 2024 and brings coaching experience at both the club and high school levels. She looks to guide the Pacers into a new chapter while continuing the tradition of excellence she helped create as a student-athlete.
