SWEET BRIAR, Va. - The William Peace women's soccer team closed out non-conference play with a 1-1 draw against Sweet Briar College Wednesday evening, moving to 4-2-2 on the season.
The teams went into halftime scoreless despite plenty of chances on both ends. Courtney Dugan made seven saves in the opening 45 minutes, while Peace put four of its six first-half shots on goal.
The Pacers came out with 10 shots in the second half and broke through in the 62nd minute when Josie Tucker found the back of the net to give Peace a 1-0 lead. It marked Tucker's eighth goal of the season.
Sweet Briar answered eight minutes later, with Yadira Castrejon scoring on a corner kick in the 70th minute to even the match at 1-1.
Peace continued to look for the go-ahead goal late, putting four shots on frame over the final 14 minutes. Hannah Torri, Dixie Barnes, Addison Tulowitzki and Savanna Berckmiller each forced saves, but the match remained tied through the final whistle.
Dugan and Gabby Torri split time in goal, combining for 12 saves. Peace finished with 16 shots, including 12 on goal, while Sweet Briar recorded 18 shots with 13 on frame.
The Pacers finish non-conference play at 4-2-2 and now turn their attention to USA South action. Peace returns home Sunday, Sept. 20, to host Pfeiffer University at 2 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park.
