Softball Splits Doubleheader With Alma

RALEIGH, NC -- William Peace University softball split a two-game series with Alma College. The Pacers took game one 6-4 before falling 12-7 in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game One


Katherine Murphy would start out strong in the circle for the Pacers, notching several strikeouts to keep the game scoreless.In the bottom of the second, Anna Suggs would double to left field to drive home Adayna Day for a 1-0 lead.

At the top of the third, a single and a fielding error would give the Scots a 3-1 advantage. Murphy would continue to be strong, keeping the Pacers in the game. In the bottom of the 5th, a single from Dara Orr would cut the lead to 3-2. A single from Lauren Conway would bring home Lydia Hunt to tie it 3-3. Logan Ayers would drive in a huge triple to score Candice Smith, Lauren Conway, and Dara Orr to give the Pacers a 6-3 lead. The Scots would add one run at the top of the 7th, but the Pacers would come away with a 6-4 win.

Game Two

The Scots would get out to a strong start in the first inning, taking advantage of an error and load the bases to begin with a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the first, the Pacers would add a run after a walk for Adayna Day to trail 3-1. A double from Preston Hawkins would tie the game 3-3 in the bottom of the third, but the Scots would rally to lead 7-3 at the top of the 4th.

Alma would add two more runs on a single at the top of the 5th. A homerun from Logan Ayers would cut the lead to 9-4, while a single from Megan McAnany would bring the score to 9-5 as the Pacers battled back. Alma would add three more at the top of the 6th to lead 12-5. A double from Adayna Day would cut the lead to 12-6, with a single from Anna Suggs bringing home Day to bring the score to 12-7, but the Pacers were unable to overcome the deficit and would fall 12-7.

PACER TOP PERFORMERS FOR THE FOES
  • E. Fraser went 3 for 4 in game one with 3 RBIs and 3 for 4 in game two with 5 RBIs.
  • D. Little notched 5 strikeouts in game two.
NEXT GAME
The Pacers will compete in the 15th Annual Grand Slam Triangle Classic, taking on Carnegie Mellon on Saturday, February 26th at 10AM and Denison at 12:30PM.
