Women's Soccer Ends In Draw In Conference Opener Against Mary Baldwin

CARY, NC -- William Peace University women's soccer opened USA South Conference Play with a scoreless draw against Mary Baldwin University in 2OT. Goalkeeper Makenzie Jones made several spectacular saves for the Pacers, with the team putting up several good chances throughout the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Pacer goalkeeper Makenzie Jones would be challenged early on a shot by Elena Guy, but she would keep the Fighting Squirrels off the scoreboard. Raine Greene would get a shot on target at 7:53, but goalkeeper Anyka Wilkin would shut her down. The teams would battle for possession, with neither gaining much traction in the first half and sending it 0-0 at halftime.

Mary Baldwin would gain early control in the second half, with a shot by Quierra Hawkins being picked up by Makenzie Jones at 63:22. Victoria Finklea would have a solid chance at 71:50, but Wilkin would again keep the Pacers at bay. Raine Greene would just hit the crossbar at 82:26 for WPU's best chance of the half, but the game would head into overtime still scoreless.

Both teams would have a few chances in the first overtime period, but neither would find a way past the goalkeepers. In the second overtime period, Raine Greene would get the final chance of the game, but Wilkin would make the save to end the game in a scoreless draw.
