Softball Begins Conference Play With Sweep Of Mary Baldwin

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University softball swept Mary Baldwin University in a doubleheader matchup. The Pacers now begin the season 2-0 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
Game one would begin as a battle between pitchers, with neither team finding any early momentum. Makenzie Ward would get three quick outs at the top of the second, yielding one hit to keep the game 0-0. In the bottom of the third, Kristina Mojica and Reanna Brawell would score on a passed ball and a fielding error to give the Pacers a 2-0 lead. The Pacers would get the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth, with Nadia Pittman scoring to bring the Pacer lead to 3-0. Reanna Braswell and Logan Ayers would each record a single to score two more runs, bringing the score to 5-0. Pitching efforts from Makenzie Ward, Kiley Martinez, and Summer Jacobs would complete the shutout and secure the 5-0 Pacer win.
 
GAME TWO
Mary Baldwin would get an early lead on a 2-RBI double to lead 2-0 at the top of the first. In the bottom of the second, Raynee Redington would get a  leadoff walk before making a great move to avoid the tag while stealing 2nd. Logan Ayers would get a hit and a RBI to give the Pacers their first run as they trailed 2-1. With bases loaded Logan Ferguson would notch a stand-up double to tie the score 2-2. A wild pitch would score  another, putting the Pacers on top 4-3. A single by Nadia Pittman would put the Pacers up by 2 with the score 5-3. The Fighting Squirrels would tie the game 5-5 at the top of the third with a few singles. The Pacers would get the bases loaded again in the bottom of the third, and a walk for Emily Puckett would give the team a 6-5 lead. In the bottom of the sixth, Candice Smith would hit one over the fence to bring the score to 7-5 in favor of the Pacers.  Logan Ayers would notch a 2-RBI single to increase the Pacer lead to 9-5, with the Pacers able to hold on and secure the win.
 
PACER TOP PERFORMERS
  • Nadia Pittman went 2 for 3 in both games, adding one RBI in game two.
  • Summer Jacobs pitched for 3 innings in game one, notching 3 strikeouts and allowing just one hit and no runs.
FOR THE FOES
  • Marybeth Strickler and Lacey Pugh each went 2 for 3 in game two.
NEXT GAME
The Pacers will host Meredith College on March 31st. First pitch is set for 1PM.
