Pacers Fall In Season Opener To D2 Barton College

Raleigh, NC -- William Peace University men's lacrosse fell to Barton College by a score of 15-8. The Pacers got on the board early in the first period, with heavy pressure coming from the Bulldogs in the second. Nick Shelton and Kuleul Moore were strong in goal for the Pacers, tallying 13 and 11 saves respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a few strong saves in net by Pacer goalie Kuleul Moore, the Pacers would get on the board first with a goal by Nick Falso to put them up 1-0. Scout Philipp would increase the Pacer lead 2-0 at 4:24, adding his second goal a few minutes later to give WPU a 3-0 lead. Barton's Seth Mandryk would cut the Pacer lead near the end of the first as WPU led 3-1 heading into the second period.
  • In the beginning of the second period, Barton would amp up the pressure to score several goals in a short span and take a 5-3 lead. Brewer Warlick would put the Pacers back within one, while Finn McGrady's goal would tie the game 5-5. The Bulldogs would quickly regain the lead moments later with two goals just seconds apart to hold a 7-5 advantage over the Pacers heading into halftime.
  • Nick Shelton would make three quick saves to start off the third period before Barton would find a way to score and increase their lead to 8-5. Barton's Seth Mandryk would score his third of the game to bring the score to 9-5, adding another moments later to lead 10-5. Barton continued to push the Pacer defense as they added another goal at 5:26 to lead 11-5. Finn McGrady would give the Pacers some life as his goal, assisted by Nick Falso, would bring the score to 11-6. Barton would add two more in the third, taking a 13-6 edge heading into the final period.
  • The Bulldogs quickly challenged the Pacers in the final period, scoring on the man-up advantage at 14:16 to lead 14-6. Zach Hodge would score his fifth goal to increase Barton's lead to 15-6. Near the end of the period, Brewer Warlick would score his second of the game to cut the lead to 15-7. In the final minutes, Riley Murray would score on the man-up advantage, but the Pacers would fall 15-8 to the Bulldogs.
