Greene Scores Two As Pacers Open Season With Win Over D2 Shaw University

Raleigh, NC -- The William Peace University women's soccer team opened the 2021 season with a 3-2 win over Shaw University. The Pacers now move to 1-0

In the first half, Lillie Maness would have the first opportunities of the game as her first shot was saved by goalkeeper Shianna Duplantis and her second shot moments later would go just wide of the net. The Pacers would continue to put the pressure on Duplantis, with a few good chances coming at the midway mark after several corner kicks by the Pacers. Raine Greene would break through and score on a rebound shot at 27:30, with Gabrielle Jones picking up the assist to put the Pacers up 1-0. Rachel Alford would make a quick move to find the back of the net minutes later, with Kyra Delaney picking up that assist and giving WPU a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

In the second half, the Bears would find a way past the Pacer defense to cut the lead to 2-1 with a goal by Thalita Faria at 52:41. Neither team would gain much of an advantage until Raine Greene would notch her second goal of the game at 52:41 on a free kick. The Pacers would continue to hold the momentum for the majority of the half, firing shots on net.
