Softball Goes 2-0 On The Day Over FDU-Florham

The William Peace University softball team took two wins over FDU-Florham by scores of (12-1) and (6-0).

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE
The Devils would take an early (1-0) lead at the top of the first, but the Pacers would quickly respond in the bottom of the inning. Candice Smith's sacrifice fly would score Dara Orr (1-1), while Danielle Hunt's home run would bring in two more runs (3-1), with Lauren Conway scoring on a passed by for a (4-1) Pacer lead. The Pacers would add five in the bottom of the second with hits from Candice Smith, Danielle Hunt, and Taylor Ferguson to lead (9-1). The Pacer defense would continue to hold the Devils off the scoresheet, with the team adding three more runs in the bottom of the fourth with singles by Dara Orr and Candice Smith to close the game (12-1)
 
GAME TWO
 
Game two would prove to be a pitching battle between WPU's Katherine Murphy and FDU's K. Oplinger as they held both teams off the scoresheet until the bottom of the third. Danielle Hunt would continue to be hot at the plate as her single would score two to give the Pacers a (2-0) lead.The Pacers would add four more runs in the bottom of the sixth with a single from Abbi Colclough giving WPU a (4-0) lead while a double by Lauren Conway would bring in two runs (6-0). The Pacers would hold the Devils at the top of the seventh to secure the (6-0) win.

PACER TOP PERFORMERS
  • Danielle Hunt was in the circle for all 5 innings in game one as she allowed 1 run and tallied 7 strikeouts.
  • Dara Orr went 2 for 3 at the plate as she contributed one RBI in game one.]
  • Abbi Colclough was 2 for 4 in game two with one RBI.
  • Katherine Murphy pitched 5 innings for the Pacers in game two as she allowed zero runs and notched 5 strikeouts.
