Lions Take Down Pacers in Physical Match-Up

The Basics:
  • Final Score: William Peace 11  Piedmont 24
  • Records: William Peace 5-9 Piedmont 7-7
  • Location: Holly Springs, NC

How it Happened:
  • The Lions jumped ahead with two early goals at the ten minute mark in the first period. Anthony Florian answered with a goal, with 5:50 remaining.
  • Avery Jenks pushed the Lions ahead, 4-1 with a goal with three minutes remaining in the first quarter.
  • The rain began to pour down at Ting Park just before the end of the first period, as Jason Grexa found Brady Jenks with a hail mary down field, for a goal in the final second of the first period (5-1).
  • Walker Rice opened the second period with a goal to cut the Lions lead to 3.
  • The Lions went on a 5-1 run before the Pacer offense began to gain some momentum. Two goals from Dalton Albright and one from Anthony Florian with seven minutes remaining in the first half would give the Pacers some life, cutting the Piedmont lead to 10-6.
  • Piedmont scored one final goal before halftime, heading into the break, up 11-6.
  • Anthony Florian opened the third quarter with a goal in the opening thirty seconds but the Lions would surge ahead to score five unanswered goals in the following seven minutes (16-7).
  • The Lions would run away with the game in the fourth quarter as the Pacers battled against many penalties, allowing for several man-up opportunities for Piedmont.
  • The Lions came out on top, 24-11.

For the Foes:
  • Avery Jenks, Brady Jenks, Jacob Wittenberg, Jeremy Kohn, and Josh Cobbina each finished with four goals.
  • Avery Jenks also tallied four assists.
  • Lamont Nesbitt finished with eight ground balls and won 23-31 faceoffs.

  • The Lions out-shot the Pacers 57-52.

The William Peace men's lacrosse team will return to Ting Park on Wednesday, April 17 to take on Greensboro College. The Pacers face the Pride at 4:00 p.m.
