Knights Push Past Pacers in Final Minutes of Play

BUENA VISTA, VA -- The WPU women's soccer team kicked off their season on the road in Virginia, as they took on Southern Virginia University on Friday night. The Pacers and Knights battled back and forth through both halves before the Knights scored two back-to-back goals within the final two minutes of play, capping the game with the win, 2-0.

The Pacers defense was put to the test as the Knights recorded 13 shots in the first half and six  shots in the second half. Freshman, Makenzie Jones notched six saves in goal for the Pacers. The Knights pressured the Pacers in the midfield and controlled the offensive flow of the game through both halves of play.

The Pacers looked to create an offensive spark in the second half of play but the SVU defense kept the Pacers limited to zero total shots. Armonie Frazier proved strong on the back line, defending several attacks from the Knights. As the final minutes counted off the game clock, with the game at a 0-0 draw, Southern Virginia used their last burst of energy to break through the Pacer defense to score back-to-back goals to close the game.

The Pacers will be back in action on Sunday, September 2 at 3:00 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park. The Pacers will face the Scotties of Agnes Scott College, a USA South Conference member in the West Division.
