Raleigh, NC-- William Peace University Softball team swept the Averett University Cougars in a two very close games 5-4 and 4-3.
Game One
The Cougars got off to an early lead 0-1 in the top of the first inning after Taylor Hodges scored from third on groundout to short by Ashley Carbajal. The Cougars would extend their lead by one in the top of the third inning when Kaitlyn Aherron scored on a wild pitch making it 0-2. Nadia Blevins started the bottom of the third with a bunt single, Blevins would move into scoring position after stealing second base. An error by the Cougars would score Nadia Blevins from second making the score 1-2. The Pacers would keep the momentum going as Oliva Oates homered to left field in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game (2-2).
The Cougars would break the tie scoring two more runs in the top of the sixth inning after a Makenzie Collins single and a Casey Cook sacrifice fly would put the Averett ahead 2-4. In the top of the seventh the Pacers would contain the Cougars after
Makenzie Ward retired the side in order. In the bottom of the seventh,
Nadia Blevins would again start the Pacers rally after reaching base after getting hit. Blevins would again steal second and move into scoring position. A perfectly placed bunt by
Lauren Conway would advance Blevins to third.
Kristina Mojica would double deep to center to score

Lauren Conway to third, bringing the Pacers within one.
Alexa Nemeth would tie things up at four after a ground out to shortstop would score Conway. Senior
Katelyn McLamb would step up to the plate to finish the game with a walk-off hit through the left side scoring
Kelsey Harrison to give the Pacers a 5-4 win!
Game Two
Nicole Cauthen would start the Cougars off in the top of the first with a 2 RBI double with the bases loaded. The Pacers would answer right back in the bottom of the first with an RBI double by Kristina Mojica to score Lauren Conway to bring the Pacers within one. Alexa Nemeth would continue her impressive hitting with a no doubter over the right field fence to put the Pacers ahead 3-2. Averett would tie things up in the third with a Makenzie Collins single that would score Ashley Carbajal. In the bottom of the third with the bases loaded Kacy Haithcock would work the count and reach first base on a walk to score Lauren Conway and put the Pacers back in front 4-3. Neither team would be able to put anymore runs on the board for the rest of the game. Makenzie Ward would come into the game for the Pacers in the top of the fourth and pick up her fourth save of the year and hold the Cougars to give the Pacers the 4-3 win.
THE BREAKDOWN:
- Kristina Mojica went 3-6 on the day with 2 RBI
- Oliva Oates went 2-3 in game one with one HR and one RBI
- Nadia Blevins finished the day with three stolen bases
- Danielle Hunt picked up her team leading sixth win on the season in game two
THE FOES:
- Taylor Bailey pitched a complete game in game one and finished with eight strikeouts.
- Nicole Cauthen went 1-3 with 2 RBIs.
- Makenzie Collins went 2-3 with 1 RBI
WHAT'S NEXT
The Pacers continue USA South conference play with another doubleheader Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at 2pm against Meredith College. The Angels come into the contest at 13-10 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
