Pacers Fall To Pride on The Road

Greensboro,NC-- The William Peace University Men's Lacrosse team hit the road for their second USA South Matchup against the Pride of Greensboro College. The Pacers would fall to the Pride 5-10.

The Pacers would lose the initial faceoff and the Pride would take advantage quickly taking two shots in the first  minute of the game. Nick Shelton would hold strong with key saves for the Pacers between the pipes. After a WPU turnover the Pride's Philip Gerber would put Greensboro up 1-0 with 9:59 left in the first quarter. William Peace would answer immediately with a goal by Patrick Williams, leveling the score at 1-1 with 9:10 left. The Pride would regain the lead with 6:54 left in the first after a goal from Ryan Cole. The Pacers would put the pressure on Greensboro, Tanner Brown would send a shot wide. Nick Falso would maintain possession for the Pacers and send a shot of his own bouncing off the pipe. The Pride would gain possession after a turnover by Nick Falso, a successful clear attempt by Greensboro would follow .The Pride would capitalize scoring their third goal of the day; widening their lead to 3-1 with 2:30 remaining.

At the start of the second quarter, Greensboro College would tack on two more goals to put the Pride up 2-5. With 7:02 remaining in the second quarter, Tanner Brown would force a turnover and pickup the ground ball. Following a holding penalty on Greensboro, the Pacers would have an Extra-man opportunity. Tanner Brown converted on the extra man with 5:04 remaining. The score would remain the same heading into halftime with the Pacers trailing 2-5.

After Greensboro won the faceoff to start the second half, Tyler Casis would force a turnover. Anthony Florian would pickup the ground ball to lead to a successful clear.Two penalties from Greensboro would  give the Pacers a two man advantage. Austin Abourjilie would fire a shot home to cut the Pride's lead to 3-5 with 13:04 left in the third quarter. Greensboro wouldn't back down and would add another two goals making it 3-7 with 3:39 left in the third.  Anthony Florian would setup Nick Falso for the Pacers 4th goal making it 4-7 with 2:57 left in the third.

The fourth quarter would see the Pacers struggle with turnovers which Greensboro would take full advantage of and score three unanswered goals widening their lead to 10-4. Austin Abourjilie would score the Pacers loan goal in the fourth with 3:26 left to play. Greensboro college would hold the Pacers and pick up the win 10-5.

THE RECAP:
  • Nick Shelton started in the cage for the Pacers and recorded 12 saves, two ground balls and two turnovers.
  • Austin Abourjilie had two goals, one assist and one turnover on the day. Abourjilie leads the team with 11 goals in four games played.
  • Nick Falso and Patrick Williams had a goal a piece.

THE FOES:
  • Greensboro College had three different playes with two goals a piece.
  • Stephan Tanner picked up the win in goal for the Pride and had five saves in the game.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Pacers will host Wabash College, on March 7th  in their first ever home game. The 7 p.m game will take place in Holly Springs, NC at Ting Park.
