Cary, NC -- The William Peace University women's softball team started off the Triangle Softball Classic on Friday, February 23rd with a (1-0) win over Mississippi University for Women and a (3-1) loss to NC Wesleyan. The Pacers now hold an overall record of (2-2).
Game One
The Pacers and the Owls started off with quick 1,2,3 outs in the first inning. Danielle Hunt started off on the mound for the Pacers and would pitch the entire game. In the bottom of the second the Pacers would get the bases loaded with just one out, but Mississippi pitcher Madison Scoggin would strike out the last two batters to keep the game scoreless. Scoggin and Hunt kept the game scoreless, while Caylan Harrison would make all three outs in the top of the 7th. In the bottom of the 7th, Kacy Haithcock would drive it to the fence, and the Pacers would get runners in the corners on Lauren Conway's bunt, but the Owls would convert on a double play to send the game into extra innings. Alexa Nemeth would bring home Nadia Blevins with a single to left in the bottom of the 8th to give WPU the 1-0 win.
Game Two
NC Wesleyan got off to a quick start, scoring on a stealing play to lead 1-0 in the top of the first. In the bottom of the first, the Pacers would get runners in scoring position with two outs but were unable to gain any runs. Neither team would get on the board again until the top of the sixth, when NC Wesleyan would score on a single to lead 2-0. Kristina Mojica would hit a double to left-center in the bottom of the sixth, but NC Wesleyan's Nichole Mooney and Kayla Molivas would hold the Pacers. Mackenzie Ward would relieve Kelsey Durham at the top of the seventh for the Pacers, where the Battling Bishops would add one more to lead 3-0.

Heather McLean led the team in the field with 12 putouts, while Caylan Harrison tallied 7 assists at third base.

What's Next:
The Pacers will continue in the Triangle Softball Classic on Saturday, February 24th with a 12 p.m. matchup against Wilson College and a 4 p.m. game against Virginia Wesleyan College.
