Men's Lacrosse Comeback to Defeat Randolph For First Win In Program History

Lynchburg, VA -- The William Peace University men's lacrosse team came back and grabbed their first win in program history on Wednesday evening! The Pacers defeated Randolph College 12-11. The Pacers now have an overall record of (1-1).

The Pacers got off to a tough start on the road, going down 2-0 early. Michael Meley would put the Pacers on the board with 9:31 left in the first quarter. After a few more goals from Randolph and a goal by Austin Abourjilie the Pacers found themselves in a 5-2 hole. However, the Pacers would keep fighting. Nick Falso and Michael Meley each scored timely goals to make the score 5-4 going into halftime.

In the second half, the Pacers would give up a quick goal to go down 6-4. At that point Austin Abourjilie scored his second goal of the night with 13:12 left in the third. Nick Falso would score the Pacers next goal which would also be his second goal of the night and would tie the game at 6. Randolph College would answer right back and a retake the lead 20 seconds later with a goal by Kadri Hearns.  With 14:43 remaining in the fourth the Pacers found themselves down again, this time 10-7. Nick Falso would step up for the Pacers with back to back goals and bring the Pacers within one with 9:01 remaining in the fourth. After a successful clear by the Pacers, AJ Aguilar would fire a shot past the goalie and tie things up at 10.Heading down the stretch the score would remain tied with both teams forcing turnovers. With 3:50 remaining in the game Austin Abourjilie put his head down and powered his way through a couple of Wildcat defenders and scored to put the Pacers on top for the first time all game. After a ground ball by Alec BynumMichael Meley would score the eventual game winner. The Wildcats would get one back late in the game to make it 12-11. The Wildcats would continue to put pressure on the Pacers but a big save by Nick Shelton would close the game out for William Peace. 

 

THE BREAK DOWN

 

FOR THE FOE:

  • Brett Pausic had a game high five goals and one assist.

  • Prince Charles had two goals, two assists, and six ground balls.

  • Matt Lindenbaum had 10 saves.

  • Kadri Hearns had one goal and 5 ground balls.

 

WHAT'S NEXT:

The Pacers will play Ferrum College, on February 24 in a USA South matchup. The 2:00 p.m game will take place in Ferrum, VA.
