Women's Soccer Falls to Averett Cougars

CARY, NC -- The William Peace University women's soccer team lost a tough battle to Averett University in a mid-week conference match-up Wednesday night. The Cougars took the game 1-0 after an early goal in the first half.

The Cougars would score their lone goal of the night early in the eighth minute of play as Averett freshman, Josefine Sundbom gathered a loose ball and scored to take the 1-0 lead. Minutes later, the Pacers would come down-field and Haley Hinton would fire one off the crossbar with Jessika Schutte coming in for the rebound but Schutte would miss just wide to the left of the goal. The Cougars would out-shoot the Pacers in the first half, 6-3.

The Cougars and Pacers would head back-and-forth in the second period with both teams putting forth an attack. The Cougars would continue to fire with five shots in the second half to go along with six corner kicks in the second period. Makenzie Jones would remain strong in net for the Pacers with several key saves down the stretch to limit the Cougar attack. Jones would finish with nine saves for the Pacers.
