CARY, N.C. -- The WPU women's soccer team fell to Randolph College on Tuesday evening, with a final score of 4-0. The Pacers drop to 1-2 overall as they prepare for their next opponent in Emory and Henry College, on September 10.
The Pacers fought to create an offensive threat against the Wildcats of Randolph College but were unable to maintain possession on their side of the field, executing four shots total on the night. Head Coach,
Mary Puckett shared, "I'm proud of the team for just going out there and getting after it during their third game in five days. Tomorrow's off day will be great for them to rest and recover for Emory and Henry on Sunday."
The Wildcats contributed just one goal in the first half while freshman, goalie,
Jackie Yanez tallied seven saves in net for the Pacers first half. Two minutes into the second half, Patricia Garrett would score her first goal of the season for the Wildcats. That momentum would carry Delaney Doyle to score two more goals for Randolph College in the 50:00 and 52:00 minute mark of the game. The Wildcats kept the Pacers off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game, with a final score of 4-0.
Junior, mid-fielder/foward,
Alyssa Gasperini shared her thoughts after the game, "I definitely think with the limited amount of players that we had, we gave all we had left in the tank tonight. I think it started a bit rough, but I think we fell into a rhythm and that rhythm helped us throughout the game. I'm very proud of all of my teammates for stepping up and playing with a lot of heart because that's all we had and I can't ask for anything more."
The Pacers will be back in action on Sunday, September 10, with a home game against Emory and Henry at 3:00 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park.
