Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Pacers faced their first loss of their 2017 season to the Quakers of Guilford College on Sunday afternoon, the final score, 6-0. The Pacers drop to 1-1 on the season.
WPU, although limited in numbers, proved strong on the defensive end, holding the Quakers scoreless until the 13 minute mark. The Quakers managed to takeover and maintain control of the ball for the majority of the game, with defense limiting the Pacers to zero shots.
5th year senior,
Amber Arnold shared, "I think, as a team, we did what we set out to do. Unfortunately, I don't think the final score indicates how we've improved defensively this season. With a younger and smaller team, I'm really proud of how we are adjusting to people in new roles, and with a different approach."
The Quakers came out firing in the first half notching four goals. Guilford College continued their fast tempo play throughout the second half to finish the game with 6 goals total and 12 shots on goal. Freshman goalie,
Jackie Yanez tallied 10 saves in net for the Pacers.
Coach Puckett shared her thoughts after the game, " I thought the girls responded really well to the adversity of going into our second game in three days against a fresh Guilford team. I am certainly proud of our response and the fight I saw today. I think we will continue to improve and I'm looking forward to seeing the improvement in the next few games as we recover and prepare for our game against Randolph College. We are also thankful for the support from our family and friends including some of our Pacer athletes that we had out in the stands."
The Pacers will be back in action in their first home game of the season against Randolph College at 6:00P.M. on Tuesday, September 5. The game will be played at WakeMed Soccer Park.
