NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The William Peace University Softball team was defeated by Christopher Newport University in both games of their double header on Sunday. The Captains took the first game, 8-2, and the second game, 6-1.
GAME 1
The Pacers had too many errors that the Captains capitalized on in order to win. The Captains scored eight runs, but only two of the runs were earned. The Pacers only registered five hits in the game.
Kacy Haithcock doubled to score
Heather McLean in the sixth and
Shay Poteat hit a solo home run in the seventh for the Pacers' two runs.
GAME 2
The Captains were able to string together their hits in the same inning to score their runs. The Pacers got six hits, but couldn't string enough together to get more runs. CNU hit a 2-run homer in the 3rd to put the Captains up five early. The Pacers couldn't amass enough offense to take the lead.
The Pacers will be back in action at Guilford on Wednesday for a double header.
