RALEIGH -- The William Peace University softball team split a double-header with Barton on Saturday with the Pacers taking the first game, 4-2, and the Bulldogs taking the second, 9-6.
GAME 1
Kelsey Durham pitched the entire game for the Pacers as the team strung together enough hits to score four runs. The Pacers loaded the bases in the second inning and
Courtney Barbour forced a walk to drive in
Heather McLean from third. Later that inning
Jordan Criswell singled to bring in
Kacy Haithcock and
Ally Yoder for a 3-run inning.
McLean singled again in the fifth to score
Caylan Harrison.
Durham finished the game with only allowing five hits and two runs.
GAME 2
The Bulldogs did their damage in the second inning with five runs, but it was the Pacers who got on the board first. In the first inning
Jordan Mangum scored on a passed ball.
The Bulldogs tacked on a single run inn the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings. The Pacers scored a run in the third and sixth inning, too.
Heather McLean hit a solo shot in the sixth, and the Pacers fought back in the ninth and scored three, but it wasn't enough to overcome the nine runs the Bulldogs had ammassed before.
The Pacers will travel to face No. 14 Christopher Newport tomorrow in a double-header starting at 1 p.m.
