RALEIGH -- The William Peace softball team opened up its season against Lynchburg College on Saturday and split the double header, 1-1. The Pacers took the first game, 2-1, and the Hornets took the second game,17-2.
GAME 1
The Hornets struck first in the first inning. A throwing error scored a runner on base, but it would be the only run the Hornets would score.
The Pacers didn't get much going until the fifth inning.
Kacy Haithcock drew a walk and then Courtney Berber dropped a bunt that the catcher threw towards second, but the throw bounced all the way to the fence and allowed Haithcock and Berber to score. The Pacers closed out the final two innings and took the first victory of the season.
GAME 2
The Pacers fell behind early with a seven-run top of the first half inning. The game got away from them from there and Lynchburg continued to score.
Ally Yoder doubled to bring in Kaylea Eubanks and
Lindsey Wiggins in the fourth for the Pacers' two runs.
