Softball Finishes Season with Conference Tournament Losses against Piedmont, Ferrum

ROCKY MOUNT, NC – The William Peace University softball team saw their season come to an end this afternoon, as the Pacers dropped their USA South Conference Tournament opener against Piedmont, 1-0, followed by a 7-5 loss to Ferrum. WPU finishes the season 23-19 overall. 
 
Game One: Piedmont 1, William Peace 0
Morgan Farmer went the distance and held Piedmont to only three hits, but she was out-dueled by Sarah Walker, as the Lions pushed the game's lone run across on a wild pitch in the first inning.
 
Farmer's final line was one run allowed on three hits, five walks and seven strikeouts in six innings of work. Walker (13-5) went all seven, giving up five hits and striking out two.
 
Morgan Bryant was the only Pacer with multiple hits, finishing 2-for-3. Caroline Womble, Shay Poteat and Kacy Haithcock added one hit apiece.
 
Laura Carter singled the other way to lead off the bottom of the first. She advanced to third on Hannah Hoban's double and scored with two outs on Farmer's pitch to the backstop.
 
Game Two: Ferrum 7, William Peace 5
The Pacers jumped out to a 5-2 lead with four runs in the second, but Ferrum scored two in the fourth, two in the fifth and added an insurance run in the seventh, coming back to win, 7-5.
 
Womble led WPU with a 3-for-4 game at the plate and scored on Farmer's two-run double in the second that also brought Brittany Propri home. Propri went 2-for-4 with an RBI double of her own in the first, while Poteat contributed two hits as well. Haithcock drove in a pair with her second home run of the season, an opposite field shot in the second.
 
Farmer (14-8) was pinned with the loss in her final start as a Pacer, surrendering six runs on 10 hits, two walks and three strikeouts in five innings of work. Kelsey Durham tossed the final two frames and gave up an unearned run on two hits and a strikeout.
 
Amanda Roberts (9-7) earned the win for Ferrum, giving up five runs (four earned) on 11 hits and two strikeouts in five-and-a-third. Courtney Rudd closed things out to pick up her first save of the season, holding WPU to a hit and striking out three.
