Softball Splits Doubleheader at Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The William Peace University softball team matched a season high with 17 hits on their way to an 11-8 win in their first of two games at Methodist Tuesday afternoon, but the Monarchs bounced back and took game two, 8-3, holding the Pacers to only three hits.  
 
Game One: William Peace 11, Methodist 8
WPU scored six runs in their first at bat of the day and put things out of reach with four more in the sixth, as the Pacers went on to win game one, 11-8, racking up a season high 17 hits.
 
Morgan Farmer was one of three Pacers to record three hits, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Farmer helped her own cause, improving to 13-3 with the win, giving up five runs on nine hits, two walks and four strikeouts in six-and-a-third.
 
Lindsey Coley went 3-for-4, scored in the first and drove three in. Kacy Haithcock finished 3-for-3   and scored in the sixth on an RBI single from Farmer. Lindsey Wiggins and Brittany Propri added two hits apiece and both scored twice. Wiggins also drove in a run with a double in the seventh.
 
Nicole Heinrich (2-9) was tacked with the loss, allowing six runs on eight hits in 1.2 innings of work.
 
Kristen Bailly went 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in three runs, while Morgan Faircloth went 3-for-4 and scored on Bailly's RBI double in the first. 

Game Two: Methodist 8, William Peace 3
The Pacers (22-10) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second, but they only managed three hits the entire game and lost, 8-3.
 
Wiggins, Farmer and Shay Poteat had one hit apiece. Morgan Bryant reached base three times on three walks and scored a run. Haithcock also came around to score in the third after drawing a walk.
 
Wiggins (0-1) made the second start of her career in the circle. She went the distance and surrendered eight runs on 13 hits, two walks and three strikeouts.
 
Christine Bowman (1-3) earned the win for Methodist (5-23). Bowman replaced starter Emily Hester, shutting out the Pacers and holding them to a single hit in 5.1 innings of work.
 
Heather Williams led the Monarchs offensively, finishing 4-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Alanna Anderson went 3-for-4, scored a run in the fourth and drove in another with RBI double in the sixth.
 
The WPU softball team is back in action tomorrow, traveling to North Carolina Wesleyan for a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m.
