MONTGOMERY, AL – After pulling out a pair of one-run wins Saturday at LaGrange, the William Peace University softball team came out on the short end of two more nail-biters Sunday  at Huntingdon. The Pacers dropped game one, 6-5, followed by a 4-3 loss in game two.

Game One: Huntingdon 6, William Peace 5
WPU fell behind, 5-0, after two innings but tied the game with a five-run top of the fifth. Huntingdon broke the tie with a run in the sixth and escaped a bases-loaded jam in the top of the seventh to hold on for a 6-5 win.
 
Caroline Womble and Kelsey Durham both finished with two hits and a run scored. Lindsey Coley drove in a pair of runs with her lone hit of the game in the fifth.  Morgan Farmer added a hit, walked twice, scored a run and drove in another. Heather McLean and Morgan Bryant chipped in with one hit apiece.
 
Farmer (11-2) was pinned with only her second loss of the season, going the distance and giving up six runs on 10 hits, two walks and four strikeouts.
 
Raina Lanier (6-5) earned the win in a complete game effort, allowing five runs, only one of which was earned, on eight hits, four walks and five strikeouts.
 
Daisha Henderson notched two hits, scored a run and drove in two. Kala Rooney went 2-for-2 and scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth on Henderson's single up the middle. Chelsea Messer also recorded two hits and scored twice.  
 
Game Two: Huntingdon 4, William Peace 3
Started WPU (18-8, 7-3 USAS) tied the game in the sixth, as Bryant came home on Lindsey Wiggin's sacrifice fly. The Hawks (12-10, 6-2 USAS) loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh, thanks in part to a costly error committed by the Pacers, and won it on a sac fly of their own from Blake Rowland.   
 
Bryant finished 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Womble added two more hits as well. Kelsey Durham went 1-for-2, drew a walk, scored a run and drove in another. 
 
Despite another solid outing, Durham (4-6) was tacked with the loss in a complete game effort. Durham gave up four runs, only one of which was earned, on eight hits a walk and a season best seven strikeouts.
 
Lindsey Selph started for Huntingdon but didn't factor into the decision.  Jessica Swindle (1-0) picked up the win in relief, holding the Pacers to a run on three hits in three innings of work.
 
Swindle also helped out her own cause at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Rowland and Brandi Blair contributed a hit and two RBIs apiece.
 
The WPU Softball team is back in action for a pair of conference doubleheader this week. The Pacers host Meredith on Wednesday followed by Covenant on Friday.
