Softball Splits Doubleheader vs. Guilford

RALEIGH, NC – The William Peace University softball team was back at it Sunday afternoon for a doubleheader against Guilford College. The Pacers improved to 5- 0 with a 10-5 win in game one, but the Quakers came back to win game two, 9-8.

Game One: William Peace 10, Guilford 5
The Pacers scored eight runs in the sixth inning highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Shay Poteat on the way to their fifth win of the season.

Poteat was one of three Pacers with a pair of hits. Caroline Womble went 2-for-3 and scored a run. Farmer finished 2-for-4, scored a run and knocked in two more to help her own cause in the circle.

Farmer (3-0) picked up her third complete-game win of the season, giving up five runs (four earned) on 11 hits, two walks and a strikeout.

Game Two: Guilford 9, William Peace 8
WPU fell behind 5-1 after the first, but a seven-run bottom of the third put them on top, 8-6. The Pacers were one out away from a 6-0 start, until Shelby Moreno launched a three-run shot that propelled the Quakers to victory.

The Pacer's power surge continued with three more dingers, as Lindsey Wiggins, Farmer and Morgan Bryant each hit two-run shots. It was Wiggins' third already this season and the second for Bryant.

Kelsey Durham (1-1) was pinned with the loss  allowing four  runs in 5.2 innings if work after coming in to replace starter Kim Cook.

The WPU Softball team hits the road Tuesday for the first time this season, traveling for a doubleheader against the no. 12 ranked Captains of Christopher Newport.
