WPU Softball Hands Huntingdon 5-0 Loss; Advances to Play Averett

ROCKY MOUNT, NC – The William Peace Softball team opened the second day of the USA South Conference tournament this morning with a 5-1 win over Huntingdon. With the win, the Pacers advance to play top-seeded Averett this afternoon at 3:00 p.m.

Heather Dindinger (6-5) went the distance for her second complete-game win of the tournament, giving up six hits and striking out three. At the plate, Morgan Farmer went 3-for-3, while Morgan Bryant went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Shay Poteat got things going for WPU in the second inning, plating Bryant and Ragan Taylor with a double to centerfield. Bryant led off the inning with a walk and Taylor singled through the left side to reach base.

WPU (20-14-1) scored two more in the fifth and another in the sixth. Caroline Womble doubled to start things in the fifth and scored on Brandi Stamey's base hit. Taylor was plunked with the bases loaded to bring Stamey home. Lindsey Wiggins singled up the middle to lead off the sixth. Bryant drove her in with a single to left.

For Huntingdon (19-17), Katy Messick (11-8) was pinned with the loss, giving up four runs on five hits, three walks and three strikeouts in four innings of work. Ashley Johnson paced the Hawks offense going 2-for-3.
