William Peace Softball Loses Two vs. LaGrange

RALEIGH, NC – After starting conference play with a pair of wins over Huntingdon yesterday, the William Peace Softball Team didn't fare as well this afternoon against LaGrange. The Pacers dropped game one, 11-0, followed by an 8-6 loss in the game two.

Game One: LaGrange 11, William Peace 0 – 5 innings

LaGrange scored 10 runs in the top of the first, while the Pacers only managed two hits the entire game. The Panthers added another in fourth, downing the Pacers, 11-0.

Heather Dindinger (0-3) was pinned with the loss, going the distance for WPU. Brandi Stamey and Casey Taylor collected the Pacers' only two hits.

Dani Gravett (3-0) earned the win for LaGrange with a complete game shutout. Danielle Newbern went 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBI and runs scored. Alison Jiles went 3-for-3 with a run scored.

Game Two: LaGrange 8, William Peace 6

WPU (3-6-1, 2-2 USAS) rallied to score six runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't quite enough, as LaGrange held on to win, 8-6.

Dindinger, Lauren Martin and Morgan Farmer all singled to load the bases in the seventh. Michaela Fox singled to plate Dindinger and Martin. Farmer scored on a base hit from Stamey, and then Shay Poteat hit her first dinger of the year, bringing home Stamey and Fox.

Farmer (2-3) went 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored but was tacked with the loss, allowing four runs on five hits in three innings pitched. Stamey also went 2-for-4 for WPU with an RBI and a run scored.

Olivia Wolfe (4-1) got the win for LaGrange (8-2, 3-1 USAS), giving up six runs on 10 hits, two walks and two strike outs in a complete game effort. Four different Panthers registered two hits.

The WPU Softball Team will return to action this Friday as they travel to take on Piedmont.
