RALEIGH, NC – The William Peace Softball Team downed Mary Baldwin twice this afternoon in five innings. The Pacers took game one, 8-0, followed by a 12-3 win in game two.
Game One: William Peace 8, Mary Baldwin 0 – 5 innings
WPU jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second, as Michaela Fox started things off with a single followed by a pair of walks from Morgan Bryant and Caroline Womble to load the bases.
Fox scored on an error by the catcher, and then a wild pitch brought Womble home. Farmer came through with a two-out single up the middle to plate Lindsey Wiggins and Michelle Sheldon-Gregorio, who had both reached by way of a fielder's choice. Stamey drew a walk and scored on Casey Taylor's two-out RBI single to right.
The Pacers added another run in the third, two more in the fourth, and Lauren Martin (4-1) finished Mary Baldwin off in the top of the fifth. Martin went the distance for her first complete game of the year, shutting the Squirrels out on five hits and four strikeouts.
Bryant led WPU at the plate going 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI and a run scored.  Taylor also added two hits, a run knocked in and a run scored.
Olivia Crumpton (2-9) was pinned with the loss for Mary Baldwin, giving up five unearned runs on three hits and five walks in two innings pitched.
Game Two: William Peace 12, Mary Baldwin 3 – 5 innings
The Pacers (14-9-1, 11-3 USAS) scored six runs in the first and three in both the second and fourth innings for another five-inning win over the Fighting Squirrels. Heather Dindinger (4-4) earned the win, giving up three hits and striking out four in three shutout innings of relief.
Wiggins walked to lead off the first, Womble walked, and then Stamey singled to load the bases. Wiggins scored on Farmer's sacrifice fly and then Heather Mclean cleared the bases with a two RBI single through the left side. Bryant and Wiggins both added RBI singles to left in the inning.
Mary Baldwin (3-19, 1-13 USAS) scored a run in the first and then two more in the top of the second to make it 6-3. Farmer didn't have her best stuff in the circle, but she made up for it with a two-run homer in the bottom half of the second, her fourth of the year. Wiggins hit her fourth dinger of the year in the fourth, which was a three-run shot that pushed the Pacers' lead to 12-3.
At the plate, Wiggins went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored. Stamey went 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs. Bryant had another two hit game to go along with an RBI and a run scored. Casey Taylor also went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.
Janie Brothers (0-6) only lasted an inning for the Fighting Squirrels, allowing six runs on five hits and three walks in the loss. Lindsey Shifflett went 2-for-3 with a double and a home run, while Chrissy Cromer also went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
WPU Softball takes the field next on Friday, April 3 for a doubleheader against Methodist starting at 1:00 p.m. They'll host nationally ranked Averett for a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
