CARY, N.C. - William Peace picked up its second win of the season Thursday evening with a 9-4 victory over Johnson and Wales at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.
The Pacers struck first in the opening inning when Gavin Turner doubled to drive in the game's first run. After Johnson and Wales took a 2-1 lead in the third, Peace responded with a three run fourth inning highlighted by a two run double from Hayden Heath to regain control of the game.
Peace continued to add on throughout the middle innings. Nathan Roller drove in a run in the fifth before the Pacers broke the game open with four runs in the sixth. Turner delivered an RBI single and Kyle Peters followed with a two run single as William Peace built a 9-3 lead.
Turner finished 3 for 5 with two RBIs, while Roller and Peters each recorded three hits. Heath added two hits and two RBIs at the top of the lineup as the Pacers totaled 12 hits in the win.
On the mound, Ethan Hummel earned the win after throwing five innings and allowing three runs with two strikeouts. Maddax Brown closed the game with four innings of relief, giving up just one run to secure the victory.
William Peace improves to 2-8 on the season and will return to the field tomorrow for a doubleheader against Johnson and Wales with first pitch scheduled for 3 PM. Both games will be seven innings.
